Ongoing Needs
Each horse up for adoption or in sanctuary that comes into the rescue requires ongoing care in different ways.
Monthly sponsors for those horses are needed. While we work away diligently on grants, fundraising here locally, etc they still have needs. I will list below some of the things that will help individual horses. As little as $25.00 month will help in keeping the horses going. No donation is too small.
The normal grain and hay needs are always present. We have a hay thread that you can read about, but suffice to say rounds 25-35.00 and then squares are $4.50. Grain typically runs $195.00 for #1000 from our mill.
Farrier-- Trims cost us $45.00 for our barefoot trimmer. We do not shoe horses here. Getting the foot in the best shape possible for each horse, balanced and continue with that care allows that horse a better chance at adoption. If in sanctuary it allows them to live out their life walking on feet that are as sound as possible pending any prior issues, and to be healthier.
Supplements-- There are various monthly supplements that the horses use that help maintain their health, their feet and over all body condition. Some of these supplements are being used also to help promote better eye care as well.
They include the following:
Max Flex XR-- available at Omaha Vaccine online, the cheapest place I have found to get this product. As with human medicine, this extended release product allows for not having 'spiking' in blood levels and the product can work till the next day. More is gained from extended release than spike and drop off meds.
Biotin 800--Jeffers online has the best deal on this product. Currently (7/9) they were offering free shipping on their product and that is another way to save money. Biotin is essential in healthy hoof maintenance with those who have come into the facility with severe lameness, dry or soft hooves, and overall unhealthy feet.
Fat supplements: I use a dry supplement esp right now as some oils can tend to sour in the heat.. Depending on which one the cost can run from $25-36.00 per bag.
As time allows I will get in here to post more about which ones are needed. For now I will get this posted.
