Horse Feathers Critters

I just wanted to get in here today to update on the critters. Everyone is comfortable and hanging out today. The weather is hot and humid. I was bringing in a few to bathe and cool down last week. Some just seem to love the heat. It's not at all like it was last week where the heat index was 100-102. Thank goodness.

I have couple new volunteers, I've been spending time teaching them the in's and outs of the place. One boy, 13, seems to be taking to it like a duck to water. He really loves being around the horses. I have been putting him with TB, grooming him in the cross ties, and letting him spend time with him. The two seem to get along.

We are preparing for the clinic end of July. Before I know it the whole thing will be here. Gas prices have been affecting not only us but I hear even shows and competitions. Many are even cancelling due to lack of registrations. We will go on regardless and see who shows up.

It saddens me to see how many are being affected by the weather, the economy and so on. I had a call that even the prices on horses is dropping drastically. At the sale in Bristow that the babes are going for .02 per pound. Some thats roughly $8-10.00 per baby. It all makes you wish you had the space to get them and at least give them a chance at life. Other horses are dropping in price and several owners even just abandon them there, refusing to pick up as they cant feed them.

It all makes me wonder where this is all heading with horses out there. I am very grateful that we have been able to save and help the ones we have.

I am hoping to get photos going on here also. I have to get with Theresa on how we do that. I have some new ones of Honey's legs which I cleaned today and they are doing really well. Still have more to go tho. SI's leg is doing well also. Some of the swelling is coming down in areas.

I hope to have more time later to come in to write...
